tatabot asked: Hey, I am vegan, but I am not straight edge. At first, I skimmed over your paragraphs assuming that you were bashing. Sorry for that, and I am happy that you are informed on the matter. I do have some questions. What is (largely) vegetarian? Are you recently vegetarian, freeveg, or an omnivore? If it is the third, why associate yourself with a group that you are not in? What sort of message are you yourself sending?
(Largely) vegetarian meaning I eat a mostly vegetarian diet. Generally, this is because my housemate and most of my friends are vegetarians and vegans. If someone serves me meat, I will eat it rather than letting it go to waste. I’m not strict about vegetarianism. I would describe myself as vegetarian in casual conversation, because explaining in depth isn’t entirely conducive to casual conversation. I don’t view myself as a vegetarian, but other people quite probably would.
Honestly, without sounding defensive, I don’t care too much what message I’m sending to anyone about myself. I care about what my friends and family think of me, and I care about “knowing” myself. If the terms I use to explain my lifestyle upset anyone, that’s too bad.
